Description
Part 1: Minor Procedures
In part 1 of this nonvascular interventional radiology series, we cover minor procedures performed in an interventional radiology (IR) suite. Join us as we delve into biopsies, fluid collection and drainage procedures, breast and lymph node procedures, and procedures on the musculoskeletal and nervous system.
Objectives:
- Differentiate between arthrography and localization for CT/MR arthrography
- Distinguish drainage procedures using needle/catheter from indwelling catheter
- Recognize when a separate code for needle localization of the breast can be reported with breast biopsy
- Differentiate fine needle aspiration from needle core biopsy
Part 2: Urinary, Biliary, and GI Procedures
In part 2 of this nonvascular interventional radiology series, we continue our discussion on these minimally invasive procedures by covering urinary, biliary, and gastrointestinal procedures performed in the IR lab.
Objectives:
- Differentiate between internal and internal-external biliary catheters
- Recognize when a tube change is coded as insertion of a new tube vs. replacement of an existing tube
- Distinguish between biliary procedures performed through percutaneous access vs. ERCP
