Description
This module provides a review of the function and structure of the musculoskeletal system, as well as common terminology related to it. This module discusses the skeletal system, joints and ligaments, and muscular system. A review of common diseases and disorders related to the musculoskeletal system such as osteoporosis and pathologic fractures, tendinitis and tenosynovitis, and osteoarthritis are also discussed.
Objectives
•Define skeletal regions – upper, lower, trunk and spine.
•Discuss bones vs. joints and the coding differences to remember.
•Classify muscles, ligaments, bursae and tendons.
•Review common musculoskeletal joint disorders dealing with ligaments and tendons.
•Differentiate between bone disorders.
•Discuss post procedure complications.
•Given a diagnostic statement or case study, assign ICD-10-CM codes.
