This module explores the anatomy, function and common diseases and disorders of the eye, adnexa and ear. Learners will review how the eye captures and process images as well as how the ear and mastoid process collect sound and provides balance. Coding practice exercises are provided so the learner can assign ICD-10-CM codes for diseases of the eye and adnexa process and Mastoid process.
•Label a diagram of the eye.
•Differentiate between the anterior and posterior chambers of the eye.
•Differentiate between the outer, middle, and inner ear.
•Label a diagram of the ear.
•Discuss the use of laterality in codes for the eyes and ears.
•Apply Excludes1 and Exludes2 notes to eye and ear codes.
•List the types of blindness.
•Discuss the various types of glaucoma and glaucoma staging.
•List various causes of Eustachian tube dysfunction.
•Discuss which secondary codes should be assigned with otitis media codes.
•Apply ICD-10-CM coding principles and guidelines to selected eye and ear conditions.
•Given a diagnostic statement or case study, assign ICD-10-CM codes.
