CM: Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Puerperium




This module covers the stages of pregnancy, as well as common terminology related to pregnancy. Learners will review the various trimesters throughout the pregnancy and review common diseases and disorders.


•Select the proper trimester based on gestational age.
•Identify normal fetal presentation.
•Define the stages of labor.
•Select the appropriate trimester or complicating childbirth character for certain conditions.
•Identify seventh character extensions for certain obstetric codes.
•Utilize chapter, section, subcategory, and code notes to navigate the obstetrics section of ICD-10-CM.
•Distinguish between antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum conditions.
•Determine when code O80 for normal delivery may be assigned.
•Assign codes for GBS-related conditions.
•Given a diagnostic statement or case study, assign ICD-10-CM codes.
