Guidelines and the Code Building Process



This module covers the coding guidelines that provide assistance during the coding process. This module also provides valuable information about the use of the index in locating the correct code table and body part values while coding.


•Identify when a coding guideline is available to assist in the coding process.
•Demonstrate the application of the guidelines in achieving correct codes.
•Select the correct number of codes to describe the case, based on the application of the guidelines.
•Select the correct root operation and body part, based on the guidance from the index.
