Overview

The patient presented with shortness of breath and throughout the record different physicians documented different conditions ranging from congestive heart failure to pneumonia. With the increasing complexity of inpatient cases, establishing the principal diagnosis is tough, especially when it comes to respiratory diagnoses. In this webinar, we will discuss common respiratory illnesses, coding and documentation issues associated therewith, and give tips for coding and sequencing multiple respiratory condition codes.

Objectives:

  • Sequence codes for respiratory failure with other respiratory conditions
  • Address combination coding for COPD and asthma
  • Determine principal diagnosis selection for congestive heart failure with respiratory conditions

Target Audience

  • Facility (inpatient) coders
  • Clinical documentation improvement professionals
  • Coding managers
