Description

In this course, we cover the E/M code descriptors and guidelines for office and other outpatient services. Including term definitions, and how to choose a level of service based on medical decision making or time. We review examples demonstrating how to choose a level according to the guidelines and learn how to use the prolonged services code.

 

Objectives:

Lesson 1: Selection Criteria for Office and Other Outpatient E/M Visits

  • Differentiate between new and established patients
  • Name the options for code selection for Office and Other Outpatient Services

Lesson 2: Elements of Medical Decision Making

  • Categorize problems as low, moderate, or high severity
  • Apply the data criteria as defined in the guidelines
  • Choose a level of service based on medical decision making

Lesson 3: Code Selection Using Time

  • Pick a level of service based on total time
  • Know when to apply a prolonged services code in addition to the E/M code
