The opioid epidemic and legalization of marijuana are only a couple of elements that have made coding for substance abuse difficult for coders. Beyond the codes for substance use disorder, patients also often present with overdose, which brings poisoning codes into play and recent changes in the perinatal codes have allow for coding newborns affected by maternal use of both therapeutic and illicit drugs. This webinar will take you through the ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and beyond and explore the intricacies of the impact of medications and substances on the coding process.
