Product Description

This ICD-10-CM course Certain Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, reviews the ICD-10-CM Chapter 1 categories (A00-B99) and the ICD-10-CM terminology as it relates to certain Infectious organisms such as HIV/AIDS, combination infectious organisms and diseases. The learner is provided with the tools needed to code cases involving bacterial, viral, and other infectious diseases.

Objectives:

Lesson 1: Infectious Etiologies

  • Differentiate between organisms that cause infections
  • Identify bacterial organisms by type
  • Discuss diagnostic tests that aid in diagnosing infectious diseases

Lesson 2: Structure and Format of Chapter 1

  • Identify guidelines specific to infectious and parasitic diseases
  • Review the organization of Chapter 1 in ICD-10-CM

Lesson 3: Sepsis

  • Distinguish between Sepsis-2 and Sepsis-3 clinical criteria
  • Identify documentation requirements for assigning sepsis and severe sepsis codes
  • Apply sepsis coding guidelines

Lesson 4: Bacterial Infections

  • Determine when to use additional codes for causative organisms
  • Differentiate between MRSA combination codes and Z codes for drug-resistant organisms

Lesson 5: Viral Conditions and Mycoses

  • Determine when to use B codes and Z codes for different HIV conditions
  • Identify when to use Chapter 1 codes to report hepatitis
  • Assign codes for candidal conditions

Maybe making course more interactive with more purple questions more often would be helpful especially for specific coding guidelines

Some examples for coding were a bit confusing. I would have preferred if there were more simple examples or more examples overall.

I do wish Influenza was covered in this course as there are quite a few codes for influenza infections and I always feel unsure on those. Section on Covid was extremely helpful!
