Description
This ICD-10-CM course Diseases of the Musculoskeletal System and Connective Tissue, provides a review of the function and structure of the musculoskeletal system, as well as common terminology related to it. This course discusses the skeletal system, joints and ligaments, and the muscular system. A review of common diseases and disorders related to the musculoskeletal system, such as osteoporosis and pathologic fractures, tendinitis and tenosynovitis, and osteoarthritis, is also discussed.
Objectives:
Lesson 1: Anatomy and Function
- Recognize the separate components and functions of the musculoskeletal system
- Identify and compare bones versus joints and learn about an important coding guideline involving those structure
- Classify disorders of the muscles, tendons, bursae, and other musculoskeletal components into the correct sections of ICD‐10‐CM
Lesson 2: Chapter 13 Structure and Format
- Identify the code set up for ICD-10-CM Chapter 13
- Recognize continuing documentation challenges involving musculoskeletal conditions
Lesson 3: Diseases of the Musculoskeletal System
- Match joint disorders to their definitions
- Assign codes for various bone disorders
- Identify postprocedural complication codes of the musculoskeletal system
