Description
This course is all about wrists and hands! In lesson 1, we discuss wrist anatomy and incision and excision procedures before diving into wrist repairs and fracture and dislocation treatment procedures. In lesson 2 we’ll give you a hand-with-hand anatomy followed by lesson 3 where we discuss incision and excision procedures performed on the hands and fingers. Lesson 4 rounds out our education on orthopedic procedures on the upper extremities by presenting hand repair and fracture and dislocation procedures.
Objectives:
Lesson 1: Wrist Anatomy and Incision/Excision Procedures
- Identify the carpal bones of the wrist
- Distinguish flexor tendons from extensor tendons
- Recognize various levels of forearm and wrist amputation, and assign a code for carpal tunnel release
Lesson 2: Wrist Repairs and Fracture/Dislocation Treatments
- Identify various types of fracture codes for the radius and ulna
- Differentiate between intra-articular and extra-articular fractures
Lesson 3: Hand Anatomy and Incision/Excision Procedures
- Identify the bones and joints of the hand
- Decipher and code an op report for Dupuytren’s contracture
- Differentiate between fasciotomy and fasciectomy
Lesson 4: Hand Repairs and Fracture/Dislocation Treatment
- Recognize zone 2 of the hand
- Apply codes to a procedure report for tendon repair
- Assign codes for fractures of the hand and finger
