Description
This course builds the foundational knowledge and skills for success when reporting procedures on the musculoskeletal system of the body. Join us as we review musculoskeletal anatomy and a walk-through of the structure of the musculoskeletal subsection of CPT. This course is recommended before taking either the Procedure Coding for Orthopedic Surgery: Upper Limbs or Procedure Coding for Orthopedic Surgery: Lower Limbs courses.
Objectives:
Lesson 1: Orthopedic Anatomy and Directional Terms
- Label the structures of a joint
- Differentiate between ligaments and tendons
- Differentiate between distal and proximal
L2 Structure of the CPT Musculoskeletal Subsection
- Locate ranges of codes for specific body regions.
- Identify code ranges for open vs. arthroscopic joint procedures.
- Apply directional terms to locate codes for limb procedures
L3 Application of Casts and Strapping
- Distinguish between fracture care and application of immobilization devices
- Differentiate between static and dynamic finger splints
- Determine when a code should be assigned for splint application
