Description
Join us for Coding Substance Abuse and Poisonings! The opioid epidemic and legalization of marijuana are only a couple of elements that have made coding for substance abuse difficult for coders. Beyond the codes for substance use disorder, patients also often present with overdose, which brings poisoning codes into play, and not to mention, the perinatal codes have allowed for coding newborns affected by maternal use of both therapeutic and illicit drugs. This webinar will take you through the ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and beyond, and explore the intricacies of how medications and substances affect the coding process.
Objectives:
- Determine when to assign a code for poisoning in addition to a substance use code
- Differentiate between codes for newborn affected by maternal use of therapeutic and illicit drugs
- Identify when a code for substance use should be assigned
