Description

Objectives:
Lesson 1: Common Terminology
- Define release of information (ROI) and other key terms integral to the release of information process
- Classify types of requests which require patient’s authorization
- Differentiate between the various types of requestors and the reason information is requested
Lesson 2: Understanding Authorization Requirements
- Recognize the required elements of a valid authorization
- Define a Personal Representative and provide some examples
- Apply methods for validating an authorization as well as a patient’s identity before completing a request
Lesson 3: Legal Requirements for Releasing Records
- Describe the federal laws governing ROI including the Minimum Necessary standard
- Define Accounting of Disclosures
- Compare State Laws and Federal Laws​
- Examine timeframe requirements for releasing information
