This module reviews the ICD-10-CM Chapter 1 categories (A00-B99) and the ICD-10-CM terminology as it relates to certain Infectious organisms such as HIV/AIDS, combination infectious organisms and diseases. The learner is provided with the tools needed to code cases involving bacterial, viral, and other infectious diseases.
• Differentiate between causative organisms.
•Identify bacterial organisms by type.
•Select diagnostic tests that aid in diagnosing infectious diseases.
•Determine when to assign codes from category Z16.
•Identify a course of action to take when a physician documents the patient’s condition as urosepsis.
•Distinguish between codes for SIRS due to noninfectious conditions and sepsis.
•Select codes for severe sepsis.
•Determine when to use B codes and Z codes for different HIV conditions.
•Identify when to use Chapter 1 codes to report hepatitis.
•Assign codes for candidal conditions.
•Given a diagnostic statement or case study, assign ICD-10-CM codes.
