This course covers the stages of pregnancy, as well as common terminology related to pregnancy. Learners will review the various trimesters throughout the pregnancy as well as common diseases and disorders.
Objectives:
Lesson 1: Pregnancy and Fetal Development
- Select the proper trimester based on gestational age
- Identify normal fetal presentation
- Define the stages of labor
Lesson 2: CM Coding for Obstetrics
- Identify the seventh character for certain obstetric codes
- Apply sequencing instructions for OB codes used with codes from other chapters
- Recognize when to use high-risk pregnancy codes
- Select the principal diagnosis for vaginal and cesarean deliveries
Lesson 3: Normal Delivery & Pregnancy Complications
- Identify documentation requirements for the incidental pregnancy code
- Determine secondary codes and procedures that may be reported with O80 for normal delivery
- Distinguish between pre-existing and pregnancy-associated conditions
