Shoulder and Elbow

Description

This course is all about shoulders and elbows! Lesson 1, begins with a discussion on shoulder anatomy and incision and excision procedures. Lesson 2 continues the fun by exploring shoulder repairs and fracture and dislocation treatment. Lesson 3 moves further down the arm to the elbow where we will review pertinent anatomy as well as incision and excision procedures. Lesson 4 completes the course with a discussion on elbow repairs and fracture and dislocation treatment.

Objectives:

Lesson 1: Shoulder Anatomy and Incision/Excision

• Label the bones and joints of a shoulder
• Assign codes for excision procedures of the shoulder

Lesson 2: Shoulder Repairs, Fractures and Dislocations

• Identify procedures that are integral to a subacromial decompression
• Distinguish open from arthroscopic shoulder repair procedures
• Differentiate between open and closed fracture treatment

Lesson 3: Elbow Anatomy and Incision/Excision Procedures

• Identify the anatomical structures of the elbow joint
• Differentiate between limited and extensive elbow joint debridement

Lesson 4: Elbow Repairs and Fracture/Dislocation Treatment

• Assign codes for treatment of a nonunion or malunion of a fracture
• Differentiate between the types of distal humerus fractures
• Assign a code for reduction of nursemaid’s elbow
