Part 1: Behind the Codes
This training course builds the foundation for Injection and Infusion coding. The course begins with the Revenue Cycle as it pertains to injections and infusions, followed by discussions and exercises on the code sets, structure of the CPT manual and various rules and guidance applicable to I&I coding. The lessons continue with a discussion on clinical documentation with a focus on start and stop times. By the end of this course, learners will be able to apply what they have learned by answering a series of coding questions.
Objectives:
Lesson 1: The Revenue Cycle for Injections and Infusions
- Explain the concepts of hard coding and soft coding
- Identify the correct types of codes used to report services or supplies
- Locate the rules and guidelines that govern the application of codes
Lesson 2: CPT, and Injections and Infusion Coding
- Name the types of substances related to each subsection
- Identify the code blocks for I&I codes within CPT
Lesson 3: The Hierarchy, Access Devices, and E/M
- Sequence codes for I&I services provided using the hierarchy
- Identify different venous access devices
- Define when to add codes for E&M services in addition to I&I services

Part 2: Applying the Codes
Injections and Infusions (I&I), Part 2 completes the I&I series. The course examines in detail, the block of codes assigned for Chemotherapy, Therapeutic, Prophylactic and Diagnostic, and Hydration services. Determining how various substances are classified is key to choosing and sequencing the I&I administration codes. Throughout each lesson there are opportunities to practice and reinforce the concepts learned. The final lesson in this course will give the learner the opportunity to apply their knowledge using real life scenarios and case studies.
Objectives:
Lesson 1: Chemotherapy and Other Highly Complex Substances
- Identify substances that code to Chemotherapy and Highly Complex Substances and Therapeutic/Diagnostic code range 96401-96549
- Apply hierarchy and CPT rules when assigning CPT codes to Chemotherapy infusion or injection scenarios
Lesson 2: Therapeutic, Prophylactic, and Diagnostic Substances
- Describe the type of drugs and substances coded to the Therapeutic, Prophylactic, and Diagnostic block of codes
- Apply coding rules and assign codes for non-chemo, combination infusion, and injection scenarios
Lesson 3: Hydration Services
- Recognize substances and rules as they relate to coding hydration services – this means time, add-on codes, and substances
- Assign correct CPT codes to scenarios that include hydration, chemo and non-chemo infusion services

interesting and fun to do
I was hoping they would go into complex cases. Going past the midnight rule. stop and starting infusions more often, multiple sites.
more infusion coding examples would be more helpful
best
Great webinar!

Loved this course! The many practice questions made all the difference in the world!
This course really helped me understand InI coding
Such a great course and good refresher on the guidelines and I also learned more info that I did not know initially when I started infusions. Wish I wouldv’e taken this course back then.
only course that has helped me understand
As the others I have watched, this was very informative and well put together–thank you!

I code for PB and did not realize this was a facility coding training so some of the information did not apply
I would’ve liked a few more practices for the price of this course. But, I did appreciate the practices given throughout.
I learned about the chemo IV infusion codes
Excellent lesson.
very easy course
very interesting
Difficult, however, still understood the information.
