Its been over a year now since the AMA and CMS largely agreed on the definition of a split/shared visit. However, many coders still have questions regarding how to recognize these types of E/M services. Other questions have arisen including who the billing provider is based on the encounter note and whether modifier FS is mandatory for a split/shared service.
