Medicare telehealth flexibilities, set to expire on March 31, have been extended until September 30 under the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025. This extension allows patients to continue accessing telehealth from home and maintains:
- Expanded provider eligibility
- Telehealth access for rural and federally qualified health centers
- Delayed in-person requirements for mental health services
- Approval of certain audio-only services
- Telehealth use for hospice recertification
Without further action, Medicare’s pre-pandemic geographic restrictions will return on October 1, limiting telehealth access. Lawmakers continue to debate its future, with CMS leadership signaling support for continued expansion. Stay tuned for updates.
