Description

This course will provide an overview of pertinent anatomy as well as the root operations and coding tips for assigning PCS codes to trauma-related procedures.

 

Objectives:

Lesson 1: Anatomy of Body Systems Affected by Trauma

  • Identify the layers of skin and subcutaneous tissue
  • Identify the structures of the hip, knee, shoulder and foot
  • Distinguish between peritoneal from retroperitoneal organs

Lesson 2: Root Operations in Trauma Coding

  • Name a root operation that is associated with repairing traumatic amputations and avulsions
  • Identify two root operations commonly associated with trauma and two that are not commonly trauma-related

Lesson 3: Trauma-Related Procedures

  • Assign the PCS code for repair of an avulsed kidney
  • Identify the root operations for some common trauma-related procedures
