Q: Which code or codes are assigned for replacement of the ventricular catheter and valve portion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt?
A: Report codes 62225 and 62230 per CPT instruction when both the proximal (ventricular) catheter and valve in a VP shunt system are replaced. No modifiers are necessary with this code pairing.
Q: Is neurolysis always performed using surgical excision?
A: No neurolysis can also be performed using neurolytic chemicals to destroy the nerve tissue.
Q: What is the difference between allograft and an autograft?
A: An allograft is transplanted from one person to another. An autograft is harvested from the patient.
Q: What is the difference between a single strand and multiple strand neurorrhaphy?
A: In a multiple strand neurorrhaphy, more than one segment of nerve is used and the segments are anastomosed together. A single strand neurorrhaphy involves taking only a single segment of nerve graft.
