Description
This two-part course will provide a review of cardiac anatomy and function and explain how to code common procedures involving the circulatory system. This course is comprised of four lessons: anatomy and function of the heart and vascular system; structure of cardiovascular PCS codes; procedures on the heart, and great vessels and coding practice exercises.
Objectives:
Lesson 1: Anatomy and Function of the Heart and Vascular System
- Label the heart valves on a heart diagram
- Differentiate between arteries, veins, and the great vessels of the heart
- Recognize structures contributing to the heart’s electrical conductivity
Lesson 2: Structure of Cardiovascular PCS Codes
- Identify the section of PCS where cardiac catheterization codes are located
- Utilize your knowledge of vascular anatomy to choose the correct body part for certain procedures
- Match cardiovascular devices to their respective PCS device value
Lesson 3: Procedures on the Heart and Great Vessels
- Select the body part and qualifier values for coronary bypass procedures
- Assign codes for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty
- Determine the number of codes needed to report pacemaker and implantable cardioverter defibrillator procedures
- Match different types of contrast material to their corresponding PCS values

Love this format, the breakdown of the anatomy of the heart was very helpful

great
I really did enjoy the class. I learned a lot, but there seems to be a lot more to learn.
Felt a little more explanation of PCS codes needed. Example: Ventriculogram and angiography. Definitely not a beginner course.
