Description

In part 1 of this nonvascular interventional radiology series, we cover minor procedures performed in an interventional radiology (IR) suite. Join us as we delve into biopsies, fluid collection and drainage procedures, breast and lymph node procedures, and procedures on the musculoskeletal and nervous system.

Objectives:

  • Differentiate between arthrography and localization for CT/MR arthrography
  • Distinguish drainage procedures using needle/catheter from indwelling catheter
  • Recognize when a separate code for needle localization of the breast can be reported with breast biopsy
  • Differentiate fine needle aspiration from needle core biopsy

Presenter

Deanna Upston, CPC, CCS, CPMA, COSC Deanna is a Senior Coding Quality Auditor for The Haugen Consulting Group with over 20 years of healthcare industry experience. Her introduction was through medical assisting, which she enjoyed for several years. Once she was established at a surgeon’s office, she started coding their surgical cases and discovered that was her favorite part of the day. Deanna has experience working on the professional fee side of coding, audit, education, and compliance serving coders and physicians. She has put together multiple education sessions for both providers and coders. She also has experience working as an analyst in which she validated the integrity of editing logic during the implementation of claim scrubbing software. She is a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA), and Certified Orthopedic Surgery Coder (COSC).
