Q: Why are 12 codes for fusion of the coccyx being deleted? The coccyx normally spontaneously fuses, but if it doesn’t, wouldn’t the treatment be a surgical fusion?
A: The treatment for nonfusion of the coccyx is a partial coccygectomy, so the codes for fusion of coccygeal joints are being deleted.
Q: How many codes are needed to report the TricValve procedure?
A: This procedure requires three codes for reporting:
- X2U90YA, Supplement of right atrium with an intraluminal heterotopic bioprosthetic valve, percutaneous approach, New Technology Group 10
- X2H03R9, Insertion of bioprosthetic valve in inferior vena cava, percutaneous approach, New Technology Group 9
- X2H13R9, Insertion of bioprosthetic valve in superior vena cava, percutaneous approach, New Technology Group 9
This code combination includes the placement of the devices within the inferior and superior venae cavae, which are seated in the right atrium. All three codes are necessary to fully represent placement of these heterotopic (out of place) valves.
A: Currently, TJC’s PC-01 lists two codes for dilation of the cervix for induction of labor:
- 0U7C7DZ: Dilation of Cervix with Intraluminal Device, Via Natural or Artificial Opening
- 0U7C7ZZ: Dilation of Cervix, Via Natural or Artificial Opening
The Haugen Group recommends using new code 0U7C7DJ for cervical ripening during induction of labor rather than the codes listed in PC-01. We are hopeful that The Joint Commission will update their measure now that this new code is available.
