Q: How is a laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy coded?
A: There are codes available for laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomies (58550-58554)

Q: What is the difference between code 57461 and 57522?
A: The difference is the approach – code 57461 utilizes as colposcopy whereas code 57522 does not.
If you look in the CPT book, code 57461 is found under the ‘endoscopy’ header and code 57522 is under the ‘excision’ header.

Q: GYN procedures are often performed using either a hysteroscopic or laparoscopic approach – or both. How are these different?
A: Hysteroscopy is performed via a natural orifice (for example the vagina), whereas a laparoscopy involves a percutaneous approach across the abdominal wall.
